My 392, out of the box from BDR ran REALLY rich and the timing was far from ideal. It ran fine but only topped out at a tad over 300HP at the wheels. I then installed Afr185 heads and right off the bat, it made upper 380's at the wheels. Then with a tune, it made 420 something if memory surves me correctly.
I would wager that about 60HP of that was all gained in the tune.
I would check into what rev chip you have and then take it to a dyno. Both drivability and power improvements will make it well worth the effort. MHO.
