Default Water pump & alternator 351W

I have a 92CR with a 351W.
I have noticed a leak from the water pump, and need to replace it. Currently the pump inlet is on the driver side, and snakes down to the lower passenger side to connect to the stock radiator. It seems like a water pump with a passenger side inlet would be cleaner as well as eliminating about 2 feet of radiator hose.
Are there any clearance, or other problems with a passenger side pump with the alternator, or other components ??.
The motor runs reasonably cool, would anyone recommend a hi-capacity pump, or is the stock one o.k.
One more thing, The alternator brackets have seen better days, I hate to spend $100 for March Brackets. Any other recommendations, for a bracket.
Thanks
