Put it in position A and give it its own recessed compartment forward of the trunk space toward the passenger area. It would be a pain to install and remove but would also be secure and out of the way.
Unless you put in an access panel so you could pull it out through the passenger compartment.
Hell, I got lots of ideas seeing as you are the one doing the fabricating and living with it.
