I've built Windsors and I've built FE's, but I've not built a 385 series engine yet. Tom's suggestion of hopping onto the 460 forum would be a good one.

Roller cams and lifters will probably add $350-400 to your bill, but it's all for a very worthy cause.

Lots of duration will help that engine breathe, but it will also move your powerband up higher. I assume you're putting this in a Cobra, so the light weight will help you here.

My guess is that a cam with a duration at .050" in the 270/280's range with a lift of about .700-.750 will get you there if the head flow is good enough to back it up.

When you get to the cam-purchasing point, you can give Keith Craft a call and he could point you in the perfect direction.

I know all about budgets...I had to make a lot of shortcuts on my 428....but they're fun just the same. You can always save your pennies and add on later!
