In conversation with him and other articles on the web, it seems that it is actually an advantage to doing this.

If you are able to start your motor with the dist. locked out you will have a more accurate timing rather than it fluxuating with the centrifical advancement. I wanted to find out what other on CC feel about this setup.

To be honest, I am happy that I found out that my motor was setup this way because it ran pretty good with 15 degrees of timing throughout my RPM range. I can't want to set it to 36 degrees to see what it really runs like.

The bad thing is I have been trying to tune my webers for a few months and now I think this will solve my spitting and backfiring problem.

I hope someone will chime in with more experience to explain this better.
