I'm not quite sure what you mean by the hub and the tie rod. The tie rod connects to the rack and the spindle. If it's the spindle end then it sounds like the wrong tie rod end. It should be seated in the spindle. The car uses the 1974 to 1978 Mustang II front suspension. I would purchase new tie rod ends for that model. The rack is also Mustang II.
