Undo this screw and presto the whole stalk comes out. You then shorten up the stalk make a new spacer (throw away the plastic part) and you ahve a shortened indicator stalk.

Thanks, I Will be slipping out to the shed to do that shortly, after I saw Geof's picture I was certain I had the wrong model laser column.
