Really and truely it will cost you about the same either way you go, one benefit to the adaptor plate is that you do not have to remove the input shaft. Removing the input is not hard, you just want to make sure you don't drop any of the needle bearings on the inside of the input into the transmission. Although some cars, like Kirkhams, require you use the short shaft so the transmission crossmember will line up. jimig@standardtransmission.com
