You may need a puller, too. My axles were very tight in the hubs. I left the hubs connected at the top link, pressed the axles out and swung the uprights up and out of the way. Saves you having to replace all those shims on the top link, which is a fiddly nuisance, and gives you more leverage for holding the parts when you R&R the axle nut.
