as far as jetting.. a lean mixture will contribute to detonation and elevated combustion temps.

A radical cam will bleed down cylinder compression dropping compression somewhat. An aluminum head 427 can live close to 11.0 to 1 compression on 93 octane pump gas. An iron head engine will be about one point lower (10 to 1).
