PCC, Don't know if this will help but you might want to atleast rule it out. My driverside rear coilover came apart and seemed to ride fine but did knock. At first I thought it was something in the trunk rattling on bumps but when I checked under the car I was suprized to see the shaft from my shock had come apart from the top shock mount. The spring was arched to the side with the shock rattling inside. Im glad it didn't seperate or I would have been sol. When I took it apart I discovered the shaft screws into the top mount with a jam nut to secure it. It went right back together without incident but you can bet I'm watching it real close. It was a new install and I just never checked it before putting it in. Good luck with yours, John
