I had a serviceable expansion tank stripped, had the inlet turned around to the driver side (including soldering it all back up, and pressure tested, and it's been fine since. I had the brass tank polished ($60) and it looks great.
Mine ended up with several pinholes that the radiator guy soldered up (they weren't on a seam either) and it passed the pressure test. This isn't rocket science. The old ones have a certain character that adds to the vintage look of these motors (my opinion). If you're a neat freak you might not like that, but it worked for me.
