I also was wondering about the harmonic balancer on the SOHC engine. Seems to me the side oilers came with a single pulley and NO harmonic balancer, being as they were internally balanced. Perhaps SOME side oilers DID come with an external harmonic balancer? Was this a common application on the SOHC engine, which is of course a slightly modified side oiler block and crank.
428 crank in a side oiler is easy to spot, ALL 428 cranks had a harmonic balancer, being externally balanced engines. Does a boat application require a special kind of balancer (reference the 289 and possibly the SOHC engines in the auction)?
