If they are SS, just make sure you DO NOT use paper towels or dirty rags to clean them. Dry paper towel will add small scratches. I use some metal polish on a slightly moist micro-fiber towel to clean my engine panels ... after cleaning them with a wet micro-fiber towel.

Thankfully I only do it once a year. Then during the year I use a Swifter duster to clean the engine compartment.
