You can buy a set of clubs for a
lot less money than I paid for mine. Figure out how much you want to spend on him and give him a gift cert which includes a professional fitting so he gets a "good feeling" set of clubs. He can then add $$ to your cert if he wants to get a "better" set.
My niece just graduated for college. I asked my two other sisters what they gave her for a graduation present. They both said $1000. So that's what I gave her too! Did not want to be the odd man out.

She is spending her presents on tuition to graduate school ... a masters degree in accounting. My niece is no dummy. At that age, I would have blown thru the money in less than a week.
