I registered mine in Denton County. No problems. Yours should be easier than mine since I built it - in my case I needed to get a title and get it registered. To do this I had to have a picture, an etching of the vin number, receipts for the engine (to prove it was not stolen), proof of insurance, bill of sale, MSO.
If I were you I would just go down to your nearest friendly County office and ask them. Be sure to register it as suggested, a replica of a 1966 etc. and this will remove the need for having to pass emissions.
