Here's my two cents on HTOB.
Pros
- Don't need space for a slave cylinder
- Don't need to buy/fabricate a bracket to hold the slave cylinder
Cons
- If you don't get the spacing just right, it'll leak.
- If you don't install a stop block to prevent over extension, it'll leak.
- If you don't secure the hydraulic lines inside the bell housing and they touch the spinning assembly, it'll leak.
- (This is the big one) If it leaks, you'll have to pull the entire transmission and likely replace the hydraulic fluid soaked clutch to fix it.
After dropping my transimssion several times, I threw away my McLeod HTOB and installed a clutch fork and slave cylinder on a bracket I made. I haven't had another problem with my clutch operation.
