number one, make sure it is from the proper year, the later ones have big bolts protruding from the top for mounting and an aluminum rear cover, the proper ones have a flat top surface. 3.07, I think would be perfect for a toploader. The highway RPM's would be better and low end will suffer only mildly and be more controllable. I have 3.31 and would go to a higher ratio if I did it again.
