I don't cover the holes when I have the racing screen on. But I usually only run it when I'm on the track as I have found that without goggles or a full face helmet the bugs, rocks and other assorted stuff tends to get in your face. Also a passenger really gets it. My wife rode with me on a parade lap at the WSCB and cussed me all the way around the track.
