Note: the total first gear multiplication on a stock 427 AC Shelby Cobra is 3.54 (stock diff ratio) * 2.32 (1st gear, close ratio toploader) = 5.86
Now your set up would be 2.88 * 2.87 = 8.27
as you can see 8.27 is a lot more total gear reduction than 5.86 which is about the lower limit and not burn up clutches.

Actually, with an "original cobra", the gear multiplication would be 2.32 x 3.54 which equals 8.21, very similar to the TKO600 1st gear 2.87 with 2.88 rears.
With this combo, definitely get the 0.82 fifth.
Another option would be to use a wide ratio toploader, 2.78 first, and with fourth 1:1, with 2.88 rears, you really don't need a 5th gear.
