McQueen was talented in a car and on a bike, he rode in Triumphs international 6 day trial team (ISDT), and did all the driving in the Thomas crown affair, but his close friend ISDT and motorcross buddy Bud Ekins was in a different league; Ekins also did the barbwire border fence jump scenes in 'The Great Escape'.
Another old old film, but watch 'On any sunday' and you get a true feel for the demands of bike sport in the period, and also McQueens not inconsiderable talent.
