Default possible detour and parking

Highway 9 in Boulder Creek may be closed for roadwork on Saturday - it is suppose to reopen by 7 AM - we would be driving through around 10 AM. We can roll the dice and take 35 to 9 to Scotts Valley with a possible detour or we can take 84 to 1 through Santa Cruz and back up 17 to SV. No detour means about an hours drive - the detour or drive along the Coast will add about 30 minutes. I am leaning toward the original plan but we can discuss the options in the morning when we may have a better sense of what is happening. It might be fun to take the detour regardless, just to add a little more drive time as a group. Opinions, especially from those with good local knowledge will be welcome. Departure time is planned for 9:30 AM promptly. If you want to eat at Alice's, get there early enough to allow for slow service.

PARKING AT ALICE'S - as in 2005, please park across Highway 35 from the restaurant and carefully walk across for breakfast. There is not enough room for more than two dozen cars in front and this way we can all park together and on level ground.

MEAL CHECKS - while I have asked for separate checks at both places, Alice's may only provide checks to each table. Please plan accordingly and don't give the server too much heat - we will have 45 people show up pretty much all at once and leave the same way - that is tough on any waitstaff. There is dining inside and outside at Alice's. Hopefully Heavenly can provide individual checks. Feel free to get to Alice's early - they have self serve coffee available at about 7:30.

PARKING at HEAVENLY - they have a small paved parking lot in front which is being blocked off for us. They won't have enough spaces for all of us (there is additional parking, but not right in front) so we may want to double up in front - again, please plan accordingly.

FUEL - there are no gas stations directly on 92 to 35. There are one or two stations west of 280 on 84 in the town of Woodside. There is a pump at Alice's - it is an off-brand. There are probably some stations on the way to Scotts Valley in Boulder Creek and Felton. There is a Chevron and Shell plus others in Scotts Valley near Canepa which in turn is close to Highway 17.

I have a friend who visited Canepa this July with the Porsche Club - he said it was an OUTSTANDING venue. Thanks to all who have made this possible, especially Tom Howland! Should be a great drive - keep an eye on the fog.

Tom
