The holes in the frame are for the front of the SBF (small block ford, 289,302,351-w) motor mounts. Make sure you have the mounts on the correct side. The tubes for the bolts are almost horizontal.

I'll check the cowl spacing when I get home but the firewall is about 1" in-front of the steering colume support. Maybe it's time to post some picts!
