Default Tremec TKO 600 vs Tremec 3550...

#770 came with a Tremec 3550, which is a nice transmission, agreed. But, the addition of a Pro 5 shifter made it even nicer, I think. My only complaint was with the 3.73 PosiTrac rear end, at 70 mph, you were doing 3000, or so, rpm. Not dangerous, by any means, but loud. Plus...you basically had no first gear. First gear was from here to there, and there was the other side of the intersection. Clearly, the 3.73 rear end was not an ideal choice for a 2500 lb vehicle.

But, as was the rage a couple of years ago, I upgraded to a TKO 600, with a .82 overdrive. At the same time, I switched to a Torsen 3.27 locker rear-end, from the 3.73 that came installed. Now...I had first gear back...and at 70 mph, I'm turning a little less than 2600 rpm....much more civilized. Plus, the TKO has no need for a Pro 5 shifter. The shift is smooth and positive using the factory installed shifter. I retained my "Jordan shifter"...which is really just the lever and nothing more...but it feels nice - your hand falls right to it - and since it's shorter it has a physically shorter amount of travel.

But...all in all...I think you'll be pleased with the TKO 600, and there's really no need for a Pro 5 shifter. Hope this helps...
