Anyway...getting back to the question, they work out muy goodo.

I've got a 482 Shelby with a bigassed solid cam (.680 lift) which does just fine with a wide ratio toploader and a 3.31 rear. Huge powerband and less shifting...power's available for anything you'll need for open tracking in without having to downshift a lot. (Shifting is what can upset the car if you don't know what the heck you're doing.) Allows you to pay attention to driving until you decide you're a real race driver...then you can watch Morris pass your ass and bring you back to reality.
