Thanks everybody for the advice. We did have an aloe plant around here somewhere but it must've died. I've used the stuff before and it worked.

This particular one was deep and not very painful initially, so my big concern is infection. I soak it for about half an hour every day in warm water with iodine and then when it's dry, I put antibiotic ointment on it and cover it with a non-stick pad and a sticky clear plastic dressing which is impregnated with iodine. Every day it's noticeably smaller but yeah, it's going to be awhile yet.

What a horror to be burned like that over most of your body. I can't even imagine how people manage with really severe burns.
