Jim - I started off thinking the same as you about backspacing, but after thinking about it the tire is what I want to keep in the same position, so basically the center line of the wheel needs to remain the same. Since the tires has a 12 inch tread the wheel lip will be 1/2 inch wider on both sides but the tires will actually remain in the same locatiopn I thinK. The wider wheel will spread the tire out but not change is location of the wheel in the wheel well. That would make for a desired backspacing of 1/2 the wheel width or 5.25"? The original BS is 1/2 the wheel width, or 4.75 on a 9.5" wheel.

What do you think? Anyone else comment?
