In the video the nose does not have anything on the stripe.

That's the Essex Wire logo I mentioned. There is a second one that I think was on the car later in it's Essex Wire days. IIRC the pic you posted that has the thicker Essex Wire text on the door is also from the era that had the mystery logo on the nose. I'll try and post a pic of it tonight.
I think that Friedman book mentions something about using FIA wheels initially, and then phasing in the 427 wheels later. I'll double check that tonight also.
And yep - your pic definitely shows Dick Thompson text on the drivers side! Thanks for clearing that one up for me.
That Essex Wire (
nice, Ron!) on the roll bar is probably for a camera. A lot of guys back then were taping their track performances. I would love to see that footage now.
