Ignorance of the law excuses no man. They have laws designed to keep structure in their society. Their emphasis is on the whole of society, rather than the individual.

We in the US are so caught up in an individuals rights that we forget about the individuals responsibilities.

BTW, I think that if the teacher gets punished then the kids should receive a lesser version of the same punishment.

I think that their law is stupid, but I also think that not being able to buy beer on Sunday (because of some other extremeist religious laws) in my state is also stupid. Fortunately, I live right next to New Hampshire, and they don't practise the same 14th century religious thinking regarding their booze that my state does.
