For strut opening, use split vacuum hose and knife edge body.
I use nothing as the hole is clean and neat anyway. You are repainting so why not edge and smooth. The paint will create a nice rolled edge look and stay with the theme of these cars "Utilitarian".
Rubbers are overated anyway!
