Thanks for the help. I am failry sure it is a 390 or 428. I still lean toward 428 I suppose because of the air cleaner which seems to match the patina of the rest of it. I think I can rule out an ft motor since it has a regular crank and distributor. I don't know of any one who was doing the ft conversions in the 70's.
The engine starts and runs although I havent heard it yet and comes with an attached c6ae date coded c6 for 650.00. I suppose I have done stupider things than buy this .
I think the intake and valved covers will bring close to that much if the engine turns out to be a hack job.
