Hey Rick, I will do eveything I can to make sure you make it!!! I think that we will have a big caravan going!!!!
Jeff thanks for the invite. I would love to come along. And you are more than welcome to see my facility. I will tell you right now that it is small. I have a 7 bay garage at my home that I work out of. I design and fabricate my cars (fiberglass too). When complete I take my molds and jigs to Shell Valley where they manufacture my kits for me. This allows me to do what I like best, design and create.
My new cars under Chesnut Motorsports are a Cobra roadster and next a Daytona coupe. I use an aluminum backbone chassis of my design. It uses C5/C6 suspension, brakes, wheels/tires (18in), differential, and steering. I have had shorter axles made, a new steering rack to keep the Cobra dimensions. I have converted the Vette diff from a transaxle to accept a driveshaft. Any engine/trans combo will fit.
My body is a simple skin since it doesnt provide any structural support. It is hand laid and uses 1 layer of glass, a 2nd layer of carbon fiber, and a 3rd layer of glass. The body is light and stiff.
My chassis design allows for greater cockpit and footbox room, again with the stock body. My floor height is 4 inches lower than a stock Cobra. I put the drivers floor at this heigh (5 inch ground clearance) The passenger floor I put at the stock Cobra height. My fuel tank is under the passenger floor. This keeps weight low and in the center of the car. Front and rear replaceable crush zones are incorporated.
The result, with a small block is a 1900lb Cobra. I am using Shell Valley Cobra and Daytona parts. Again the body is to my specs. I will sell individual components or a complete kit. My complete Cobra kit, with new 2004 Vette parts is $29,900. I plan to start shipping them to customers in June. For this kit the drivetrain, wheels, tires, and paint are all that are needed to complete. I will soon have all of the info and pictures of the car under construction soon. I will debute the car and a rolling chassis at Cartlisle.
I love to build unique, high performance cars. I do this for fun and I am having a blast!
