Flower power: Bluebonnets blooming
By Andrea Ball | Monday, March 3, 2008, 12:11 PM
Forget democracy. Elections and caucuses have nothing on Austin’s flower scene.
All Ablog Austin — known in a few obscure circles as the official source for all things petal related —
has its first report of a blooming bluebonnet.
Yep. The state flower has been sighted in Dale and Pat Bulla’s half-acre yard in Jester Estates near FM 2222 and Loop 360.
“It came out Sunday morning and it is the first one I have seen,” Dale Bulla said.
The Bullas’ early bloomers are no surprise. The Austin couple’s yard — which is filled with a variety of native plants designed to attract bees, butterflies and birds — has been certified as a wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.
“I have quite a few more that will be out this week,” Bulla said. “We have an all native yard and do no watering. They will really enjoy this rain too.”
Has anybody else seen bluebonnets in bloom?
