Getting a good seal on the intake is one of the most problematic portions of a FE rebuild due to it's design. If a "more" conventional engine (SBF, 385 serries, SBC, BBC) has an intake leak it merely sucks air. In a lot of cases the leak goes undetected due to "bandaid" fuel and timing adjustments. Since the connection between the intake and the head on a FE is constantly bathed in
oil a "leak", a angular torqued mis-match or a gasket pushed out during the assembly process will end up with an undue amount of
oil coming down on top of the intake valve. Sometimes this only becomes evident with a hard right or left hand turn, depending what side of the intake is leaking. Poor
oil return from the heads (especially with a H/V oil pump) will exasperate this problem too. This will cause the oil seals, as well as a leaking intake gasket, to be bathed in oil and subsequantly cause more oil consumption.
