i've heard stories about this and that is some great info. i live 30' north of garnett and get to race karts there. they have a small sprint track and they close the lake road off a couple times a year for the kart races. i know some people won't race there because of the hazards.
i can not imagine the cars 2 or 3 wide although the track looks wider in the pics then it does now. there is a pretty good ditch either side of the track with culverts and railing. the back straight is over a mile long leading to a rock bridge that barely lets two cars pass. for the karts they set up a chicane to slow us down. the north bend is a rising slight right turn into the muleshoe that drops and turns to the right with railing along the outside that leads to a drop off. the flatiron has been smoothed slightly and is still a hard braking right turn for the karts.
at the race last year there was a kart honking down santa fe coming up on the chicane and had his rear axle lock up, went over the imbankment on the right which is lined with boulder size rock and ended up in the drink. miraculously he was unhurt and was told they would have to bring in a truck or divers to find his kart and he replied that there was no need since he was standing on it.
