400m rods use a longer bolt than 351c/351w which may be the reason the hit the pan. At 6.58" long they give a nice rod ratio in a 351w ( 1.88 to1 as opposed to 1.702 to 1 ) and allow the use of the piston from the 3.25" stroke 302w ( 3.5" stroke-6.58 rod-1.165" pin height ) 272/292/312 Y- block pin bushs press straight in & take std SBF 0.912" pin size.
You dont mention if you have a stroker crank- have fun- those std ford parts are plenty tough, had a set of those rods in a 4" stroke Windsor/Cleveland that saw 8k before the crank broke- all the rods were still in one piece though.
