I flicked on the Tivo last night and speed-balled through this episode. Wow! That Kirkham was actually a pretty car on TV and well bought for that price, no matter what mechanical condition it may have been in.
There was also a '68 Z-28, matching numbers car and nicely restored, that only got $48K...another well bought car. The '71 hemi convertible Challenger
clone that sold for $49K started life as a 318 Coupe. It was back-halved for the convertible (grafted in from another car), but the hemi underneath was a date-coded '66-67 block. It had some body gap issues where the doors met the rear quarters, but for someone that doesn't care about authenticity I supposed it sold for what it's worth. You couldn't have one built today for that. There was also a nice, black '39 coupe that sold for under $50K...a different sort of car but was presented well.
Good thing I wasn't at that auction with $250K burning in my pocket...I would have easily bought 3-4 cars.
