I don't care what Kerry was like during the war. What I object to is his gross exaggerations as to what and how many atrocities were taking place by U.S. troops. To me it appeared to be said strictly for his own political gain. Furthermore, as an officer he had an obligation to stop and report any atrocity he witnessed. And I don't think he personally witnessed any. Even during the My-Lai massacre there were helicopter crews that stopped/interfered with the killings and took victims to (U.S.) medical facilities. Also, The Swift Boat organization put up a $1million challenge to Kerry to come up with ANY MATERIAL ERROR (let alone lie) in their ads. That was several years ago and so far nothing from Kerry.
