John,
The bracket is bolted to the frame just in case I need to remove it.

I dont see why you could not just cut the welds, install the pillow block and re-weld it. My steering assy is a complete bolt on (no welding) so I can replace items as needed. I just need to keep an eye on the bolts and keep them tight. Should not be too much of a problem. I hope.
