(No more poping during shifts from exhaust leakes. My Cobra sounds great now! Thank You Thank You Thank You!)

ARE THE AIR LEAKS IN THE HEADER SEALS WHAT CAUSES THE BACKFIRING, "POPPING" SOUND WHEN DOWN SHIFTING?

I ALSO HAVE THE CARBON DEPOSITS WHERE THE HEADER COLLECTS INTO THE SIDEPIPE. SOME OF THE BOLTS WERE LOOSE BUT I THINK I WILL NEED A GASKET TO SEAL THERE TO.COULD THIS BE THE CAUSE OF THE BACKFIRING? IT DIDNT DO IT WHEN IT WAS NEW. THANKS,
