Clutch pedal travel is affected by the master cylinder size -- the bigger your master cylinder is the less travel you need to get the same movement at the slave, albeit at the expense of additional pressure under the toes. In order to gain additional room for my long legs, I use an oversize Tilton, along with the stock BMW slave, on my ERA. Pedal configuration, master cylinder size, and the slave all need to work in harmony. If not, then you end up blowing your slave, or not fully engaging/disengaging the clutch. Here's a shot of my hydraulic setup; I'll give you part numbers if you're interested.
