G'Day Andy,
I once had a set of tepe headers ( a tent-like set of pipes above the engine) on a v-dub aluminiumised. That was the white finish popular in the sixties. It tended to burn off any stains. One stain left a mark. One of my "mates" poured a beer on the hot pipes. It took a while to burn the brown stain off. I have had other pipes done with ceramic coating and I reckon they would hold up their "cleanliness" pretty well. The aluminiumised finish was a rough porus type of finish as opposed to the ceramic finish which is dead smooth
