Discovery Channel Alert
"Everyone,
Many of you probably know that Dangerous Films of the UK was tasked with
doing a documentary on the history of space flight to be shown on the
Discovery Channel sometime this year. I was honored to have been asked
(even though I did not want to appear on camera, etc., etc.) to participate
and did so last November. My interview was to be with Scott Carpenter and
John Glenn, the last two surviving Mercury astronauts. John was late in
arriving due to high winds (he flew he and Annie to the Cape), so Scott and
I appeared together. Dangerous films was to let us all know when it would
be aired.
Due to a number of problems at NASA-Ames, I have been unable to access my
NASA email account, therefore, did not receive word about when the
documentary was to be shown. Two nights ago, I caught a brief snippet
about a presentation to be shown on the Discovery Channel June 9th (I think
was the date given).
In tonight paper I accidently found this blurb and, to those who asked that
I let them know when the film would be shown, here is what the "blurb"
states:
"The last time the Discovery Channel took on an epic documentary, it was
"Planet Earth" - a wondrous bit of filmaking that made a very strong case
for going high def if you haven't already done so. But if you still need
convincing, there's Discovery's new "When We Left Earth: The NASA
Missions", a six-part mini series starting this Sunday at 9 p.m.. Given
extraordinary access to previously unseen NASA footage, the film-makers have
crafted a beautiful tone poem to the space program from Mercury to the
International Space Station. It's great stuff that deserves to be seen In
HD."
It looks like it will start this Sunday, June 8th, and for those of you who
are interested and asked to be notified, this is the best I can do to advise
you as to when it will be shown. I just hope the newspaper is correct.
You will probably see the advertisements on TV. You probably should check
your local listings for the exact time, It may vary from state to state.
