We have one presidential candidate who says we should not go after
oil in the gulf because it will be 10 years before we would have any
oil from this new well and there would be no immediate relief in gas prices. The other candidate wants to open up the same areas for new
oil. We have an oil well now in the gulf that has been pumping for 10 years but it has only about 8 -10 more years of production left before the well runs dry. That tells me if we allowed this new well that at least it would take over for the old well that no longer produces. Back in the seventies I remember long lines at the pumps because of an oil embargo and over thirty years later we are still having the same problems. It seems that at $4.00 a gallon maybe we will try harder to support other means of transportation fuels.
