When I set out to get new side pipes the goal was more power and maybe some good looks too. The side pipes look pretty good. Along with the side pipes I changed headers, air filter, carb and fuel delivery. All together it added about 75 wheel HP and put the car into 130+ mph trap speed with easy start 10 second passes.
As to the account of obtaining the side pipes I knew when I started a Cobra is a custom application. I went with the two piece side pipe with 3 inch louvered core. I was willing to take some time to end up with my desires. I'm reasonably sure Dean Beatty did my pipes in the end after a few things were changed. The visible welds are very nice. Dean seems to be an old school drag racer with the desire to make things better. Good guy all around, and he understood what I wanted and made sure it ended up correct. It took some time, but I was satisfied in the end.
Oh, as to cleaning here's what I did for about 7,000 miles. Wipe them off with damp microfiber when pipes are cool. I also gave them a bath in CLR twice. It takes away some of the darker gold color the pipes take on. I never drove in rain, so they stayed pretty nice.
