Joe,
These poor guys and women have been really dragging the last two weeks and are starting to make mistakes. Top that off with the record 117 degree temperatures we had a week ago and it is around 180 to 200 degrees in the canyons and on the fire lines. And many of them have no experience in fighting fires like these in the canyons as they came from relatively flat states and other countries even. Now they are trying to break some of them loose and let them go home if the containment will hold another day or so until they can actually put out the main fire. Once all that is done and they get all of the others in the state contained, there will be a long period of mopping up, but they can use less trained firemen for that. I worked one Summer with the forestry here and it is a hot and miserable job. But I worked at several miserable jobs to pay my way through college. These people have done a remarkable job under the worst possible situation. God Bless Them All.
Ron
