The pedal should hit the floor at the same time you hit WOT. I went through this with my car a while back. Mine was hitting WOT way before the pedal hit the floor putting all kinds of stress on the carb. I wish I could explain how to adjust it, but you just start by adjusting the rods and you can move the rod that comes from the carb to the fire wall up and down in the grove. It took me a while to get mine right. I started by removing the rod from the carb, putting the carb at wot and messing with it at that point. There is also a stop by the fender you can adjust for the return stop. For some reason, I had to add a small rod and spacer to mine to get it right.

Sorry can't explain it better. Mark everything where it is before you start in case you get all messed up, you can at least put it back where it was.
