Default Distributor position

Hi. The distributor on my totally stock 1966 427 seems to be in the wrong position. The vacuum advance is at 5 o'clock when looking front to back. I'm a bit of a newbie with these engines, but shouldn't it be closer to the 7 o'clock position? The engine runs fine, so should I just forget about it, or try to rotate it? I'm guessing that it's one or two teeth out on the gear. If I do try to fix it, do I have to worry about the oil pump shaft? The engine is in the car, with no plans to remove it, so the last thing I want to happen is for the shaft to drop out. Thanks for any advice.
