The car appeared on eBay a couple of weeks ago and there was thread on CC about it.
I don't think anyone had any info on what happened. The ad says it's "rebuildable." I guess you could rebuild one side and use it as a movie prop.

BTW - You're link didn't work, but I'm guessing it's the SPF that you're talking about.
