Hi Dan:
Just a quick note to say I'm going through a very similar situation right now (after the blown lower radiator hose event...that was spectacular and after the dead/dying battery issue still not totally resolved.....boy is this fun). After some tracing I'll probably resort to your solution before rewiring the car.
To date the only challenge I've seen on mine CCX related is adjusting front ride height (little low on driver's side) and this is really an XKE thing. I've found some XKE info on line (and have a Bentley's on order) but my copy of the CCX Builders Manual appears to be a little light on this.
